Product description
This unpeated single malt Scotch whisky originates from Scotland, produced in Aberlour within the Speyside region. Handcrafted at The GlenAllachie Distillery under the master management of Billy Walker, Batch 13 stands as a landmark release in their iconic 10-Year-Old Cask Strength series. Distilled from heavy Speyside malted barley and aged for a decade in a rich multi-cask recipe, Batch 13 incorporates a intricate maturation blend of Pedro Ximénez sherry puncheons, Oloroso sherry puncheons, red wine casks, and virgin oak barrels. Bottled non-chill filtered and natural in color at a punchy strength of 119.6 proof (59.8% ABV), it delivers an explosive, dark-chocolate-and-berry-forward expression of GlenAllachie's muscular distillate.
Spirit Description
This single malt displays a deep mahogany-ruby color in the glass. On the nose, it is dense, dark, and highly aromatic, bursting with aromas of dark black cherries, sticky date pudding, roasted walnuts, and espresso beans, underlaid by a strong streak of stem ginger, toasted oak, and heather honey. On the palate, it feels thick, oily, and mouth-coating, delivering an immediate rush of dark cocoa powder, plum jam, and marzipan from the PX and Oloroso wood, which quickly develops into red berry tannins, cinnamon bark, and charred oak from the red wine and virgin oak casks. The finish is long, warm, and drying, leaving trailing impressions of dark chocolate, orange oil, cracked black pepper, and lingering wood spice. The high 59.8% ABV proof supports the intense cask weight exceptionally well, benefiting from a few drops of water to open up floral honey and berry pie notes.
Accolades
GlenAllachie's 10 Year Old Cask Strength series holds legendary standing in the whisky community (notably kickstarted when Batch 4 won World's Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards). Batch 13 maintains this elite reputation, earning 89–91+ point scores on independent outlets like Whiskybase, Dramface, and Words of Whisky. Reviewers praise Billy Walker’s skill in integrating virgin oak and red wine wood alongside dark sherry puncheons, achieving a vibrant balance of wood spice, red fruit, and dense dark-chocolate sweetness at cask strength.
