Glengoyne 21 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a flagship aged expression produced by the Glengoyne Distillery, located at Dumgoyne near Loch Lomond, just north of Glasgow, Scotland. Sitting directly on the Highland Line, Glengoyne holds a unique position in Scottish distilling: its copper pot stills sit in the Highlands, while its maturation warehouses sit across the road in the Lowlands. Renowned for its unpeated house style, Glengoyne dries its malted barley entirely using warm air rather than peat smoke, allowing pure grain and rich sherry wood characteristics to shine without smoky interference.
Spirit Description
Glengoyne 21 Year Old is crafted using 100% unpeated malted barley and pure water from the Glengoyne Burn. The spirit undergoes a notoriously slow distillation process in Glengoyne’s tall copper pot stills often cited as the slowest distillation rate in Scotland which maximizes copper contact to create a sweet, fruity, and refined spirit. The whisky matures for a full 21 years almost exclusively in hand-selected 100% European oak ex-sherry casks (primarily first-fill Oloroso). Over two decades of sherry wood maturation infuses the spirit with deep dried fruit sweetness, Christmas cake spices, and dark chocolate undertones.
Colour: Deep amber-copper with rich mahogany highlights.
Aroma: Intensely rich, fruity, and oak-forward. Opens with red apples, sherry-soaked raisins, sultanas, and dried figs, followed by dark honey, toasted hazelnut, baking spices (clove and cinnamon), and warm sponge cake.
Palate: Full-bodied, velvety, and luxurious on the entry. Upfront flavors of dark ripe fruit, candied orange peel, and Christmas cake give way to clove spice, dark chocolate, stewed plums, and rich oak tannins.
Body: Full-bodied with a heavy, mouth-coating, and rich viscosity.
Finish: Exceptionally long, warm, and dry, trailing off with lingering sherry oak, dark cocoa, dried fruit sweetness, and a soft cinnamon snap.
ABV: Bottled at 43% ABV (86 Proof).
