Product description

Golden Pheasant, known in its homeland as Zlatý Bažant, is Slovakia’s premier brewing ambassador and the country's most exported beer. Founded in 1969 in Hurbanovo, a southern Slovakian town chosen specifically for having the warmest climate and the best barley-growing soil in the region, the brewery was built to showcase the pinnacle of Eastern European lagering. Exported to North America under the literal English translation of its name, it is a premium Czech-style Bohemian Pilsner. Unlike Western macro-lagers that dilute their recipes with cheap adjunct grains, Golden Pheasant is a celebration of pure, old-world ingredients, resulting in a lager with exceptional depth, color, and European pedigree.

Beer Description

Golden Pheasant pours a brilliant, deep golden-yellow with bright flaxen highlights and a frothy, enduring white head that leaves tight webbing and intricate lacing on the glass.

Aroma: The nose is rich, classic, and heavily centered around raw ingredients. It leads with dominant notes of buttery, toasted bread and sweet pilsner malt, followed by a prominent, rustic bouquet of spicy, herbaceous noble hops. There is a nostalgic, slightly damp "dried autumn leaf" complexity in the background that is characteristic of traditional continental cellars.

Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-bodied with a remarkably smooth, velvety, and rounded mouthfeel. It leads with a distinct wave of honeyed cracker and bready malt sweetness, which provides a much heavier backbone than standard commercial lagers. This sweetness is quickly cut by a firm, refreshing middle of lemon citrus zest, ending with a long, dry, and clean finish marked by a pleasant, fading hop bite.

Profile: It sits at a balanced 4.7% to 5.0% ABV (depending on regional export variances) and a structured bitterness of approx. 24 IBU, offering a robust, full-flavored harmony.

Technical Notes: The brewery pridefully adheres to a 100% local barley malt philosophy, sourcing all grains from their own Hurbanovo malthouse—the largest and most advanced facility of its kind in Central Europe. It is brewed using pure local artesian water and authentic European noble hops. Following primary fermentation with a specialized bottom-fermenting lager yeast, the beer undergoes a strict 20 to 30-day cold maturation phase (lagering) at near-freezing temperatures. This long rest allows the yeast to drop out entirely, clarifying the beer naturally and smoothing out any harsh tannins to deliver its signature clean profile.
