Product description
This structured and 'crystalline' sparkling wine originates from Canada, within the esteemed Okanagan Valley A.V.A. of British Columbia. Crafted by Gray Monk Estate Winery a pioneer in British Columbia viticulture founded in 1972 by George and Trudy Heiss the Odyssey series represents the winery’s reserve tier focused on traditional method sparkling and small-lot winemaking. Sourced from choice vineyard blocks in the Central and Northern Okanagan Valley, the vines are rooted in glacial till, gravelly silt-loam, and calcium-rich limestone subsoils. The region’s unique northern marginal climate combines intense summer sunlight and long daylight hours with crisp, cooling breezes off Okanagan Lake, allowing white and red sparkling varieties to develop rich fruit concentration while retaining an electric, razor-sharp natural acidity.
Wine Description
The Gray Monk Odyssey Sparkling presents a brilliant, pale lemon-gold color in the glass with a fine, persistent, and energetic stream of delicate bubbles (mousse). Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering a classical and sophisticated portrait of cool-climate traditional method sparkling wine. The bouquet opens with an inviting display of green apple, crisp Asian pear, and Meyer lemon zest, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of freshly baked brioche, toasted almond, lemon curd, crushed limestone, and a subtle trace of white floral blossoms. On the palate, the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a vibrant core of orchard stone fruits, citrus peel, and autolytic warmth. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that drives a weightless, deep development. The mouthfeel is creamy, fine-textured, and supple, carrying into an extraordinarily long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by lingering notes of lime peel, toasted hazelnut, and chalk.
