Product description

This structured and 'crystalline' white wine originates from Germany, within the legendary Roter Hang ("Red Slope") sector of the Rheinhessen region along the Rhine River. Crafted by Weingut Gunderloch, a historic estate managed by Johannes Hasselbach, this bottling is dedicated to the legacy of his late father, the world-renowned winemaker Fritz Hasselbach. Sourced from steep, south-east facing hillside vineyards situated between Nackenheim and Nierstein, the vines are rooted in iconic red slate and sandstone soils (Rotliegend). The proximity to the river, intense solar reflection, and heat-retaining red slate create an ideal microclimate, enabling Riesling to develop lush stone-fruit flavors while retaining an electric, mineral-driven backbone of natural acidity.

Wine Description

Gunderloch Fritz's Dry Riesling presents a brilliant, pale straw-gold color in the glass with striking greenish-silver highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering a crisp, energetic, and highly expressive portrait of red-slate Riesling. The bouquet opens with a captivating display of juicy white peaches, green apples, and pink grapefruit, seamlessly layered with delicate floral undertones of orange blossom, lemongrass, wild herbs, and a signature line of crushed red slate minerality. On the palate, the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a vibrant core of crunchy orchard stone fruits, citrus peel, and subtle tropical nuances. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that cuts cleanly through the mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is weightless, athletic, and supple, carrying into a long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by persistent notes of lime zest, flint, and a touch of savory slate drive.
