Product description
This concentrated and 'soulful' red wine originates from Australia, within the McLaren Vale region and the high-elevation subregion of Clarendon. The Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard was established in 1971 by Alan David Hickinbotham, whose father was a pioneer of wine science in Australia. While the vineyard historically supplied fruit for some of the country’s most iconic wines, it was not bottled under its own label until 2012 following the acquisition of the estate by Jackson Family Wines. Today, the winery is led by winemakers Christopher Carpenter and Peter Fraser, who follow a philosophy of showcasing the innate power and freshness provided by the site's ancient soils and cooling breezes.
Wine Description
The 2021 Hickinbotham Revivalist Merlot presents a full-bodied sensory profile with a deep and seductive character. The nose features an intense perfume of violets and red flowers, layered with soulful earthy aromas and notes of mocha, coffee bean, and damson plum. On the palate, the wine is 'ebulliently' ripe, showcasing fresh plum, vanilla, olive paste, and huckleberry. It is characterized by suave, fleshy tannins and a refreshing herbal touch, leading to a lush and persistent finish with hints of orange rind and spice. This blend is composed primarily of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was fermented with wild yeast over 16 days on skins, then aged for 15 months in French barriques (60% new) before further refinement in old foudres. While the vineyard has been managed using organic and biodynamic practices since 2019, this bottling is not certified organic.
