Product description
Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is the liquid heart of the world’s most famous beer festival. While many North American "Oktoberfest" beers are dark, malty Märzen-style lagers, the beer actually served in the tents of Munich, including the legendary Hofbräuhaus is a Festbier. This style evolved in the late 20th century to be lighter in color and more "drinkable" than its predecessors, allowing festival-goers to enjoy several liters over a long afternoon. It is a premium, bottom-fermented lager that embodies the spirit of Bavarian hospitality: strong, sophisticated, and incredibly smooth.
Beer Description
Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier pours a brilliant, saturated golden-straw color with a thick, frothy, snow-white head that leaves a dense "Brussels lace" on the glass as it recedes.
Aroma: The nose is clean, elegant, and deeply malt-forward. It leads with dominant notes of fresh-baked biscuits and sweet honey, followed by a subtle floral and herbal spicy scent from noble hops. There is a distinct "clean" lager quality, with no fruity esters, smelling purely of premium Bavarian grain and field flowers.
Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-bodied with a supple, velvety mouthfeel. It leads with a rich toasted malt sweetness and hints of caramel, which is almost immediately balanced by a crisp, moderate bitterness. The finish is remarkably smooth and dry, with a lingering warmth from the slightly elevated alcohol content and a clean, noble hop snap.
Profile: It sits at a sturdy 6.3% ABV and a moderate bitterness of 26 IBU, making it more substantial than a standard Helles but lighter than a traditional Märzen.
Technical Notes: This beer is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law), using only water, malt, hops, and yeast. It utilizes a blend of Munich and Pilsner malts to achieve its deep golden hue and bready backbone. It is fermented with a traditional Bavarian lager yeast and undergoes a long, cold conditioning period to ensure its signature clarity and exceptionally clean flavor profile.
