This rare white wine hails from the Arroyo Seco AVA in Monterey County, California. Pinot Blanc was one of the eleven original varieties planted by Jerry Lohr in 1972, and today the winery continues to be family-owned and operated by Jerry and his children. The winemaking philosophy for this bottling, often sourced from the F&G Vineyard, focuses on showcasing the intense fruit purity and unique minerality provided by the region's well-drained, stony cobblestone soils.
Wine Description
The J Lohr Golden Petal Pinot Blanc exhibits a pale yellow colour and a bouquet defined by stony minerals and subtle autumn orchard fruit. On the palate, the wine is full of energy but remains plush and lifted, with a texture influenced by lees contact that adds complexity without heaviness. Sensory notes include citrus pith, pears, and a hint of almonds, all balanced by a taut acidity.
Food Pairing
This wine's bright acidity and plush texture make it an excellent match for root vegetables and squashes. It is also highly recommended as an aperitif or paired with fresh salads such as apple and fennel, as well as shellfish served with a lemon aioli.
