More Information
Product description
This single-cask French grape brandy originates from the premier cru of Charente, France, released under Maison Jean-Luc Pasquet's acclaimed Trésors de Famille ("Family Treasures") line. This independent negociant series curates hyper-limited, long-aged casks sourced directly from smallholder artisan distillers in the Grande Champagne region. "Le Cognac de Jean-Pierre L.75" highlights the cellar of local grower Jean-Pierre, featuring eaux-de-vie harvested and distilled during the 1975 vintage (Lot 75). After resting undisturbed in French oak barrels for over four decades, it was hand-bottled at its natural, undiluted cask strength of 99.6 proof (49.8% ABV) in the series' signature 500 ml format. Un-chillfiltered and completely free of additives, sugar, or caramel coloring (boisé), it serves as an uncompromised time capsule of mid-1970s Grande Champagne distillation.
Spirit Description
This Cognac displays a deep, burnished mahogany-topaz color with dark copper reflections and thick, slow-creeping legs clinging to the glass. On the nose, it is profound, aromatic, and heavily oxidized, opening with concentrated notes of dried black figs, dark raisins, prune jam, and orange marmalade, quickly evolving into classic multi-decade rancio accents of polished mahogany wood, antique leather, pipe tobacco, espresso bean, and dark cacao. On the palate, the higher 49.8% ABV natural cask strength offers a noticeably punchy, full-bodied, and mouth-coating texture. It floods the palate with intense dark caramel, candied citrus peel, and dark chocolate before shifting into deep mid-palate layers of nutmeg, clove, integrated oak tannins, and a persistent chalky mineral backbone. The extra proof carries the ancient ester profile with incredible weight without burn. The finish is remarkably long, warm, and drying, leaving trailing impressions of sweet pipe tobacco, toasted walnuts, dark cocoa, and a gentle wood spice.
Accolades
Jean-Luc Pasquet’s Trésors de Famille releases are highly sought after by Cognac purists, collectors, and master sommeliers, routinely earning 90+ point ratings from independent review outlets like WhiskyFun and Distiller. Reviewers consistently praise Jean and Amy Pasquet for championing hyper-local small-scale distillers like Jean-Pierre. Critics emphasize that bottling single-vintage 1975 casks at full natural barrel strength (~49.8% ABV) without cold filtration or boisé yields an uncompromising depth of fruit and rancio complexity that mass-market commercial XO or XXO Cognacs cannot match.
