Product description

Hugh Hamilton "The Jim Jim" Cabernet Sauvignon originates from Australia, within the South Australia region and the maritime McLaren Vale AVA. Produced by Hugh Hamilton Wines—a family whose viticultural roots in South Australia date back to 1837 with Richard Hamilton—the winery proudly styles itself as the "Black Sheep" of Australia's oldest wine family. The wine's namesake holds a legendary place in estate lore: Jim Jim was Hugh’s faithful Labrador/Kelpie cross, nicknamed the "Down-Underdog." Sourced from vineyards where Jim Jim would roam, the dog possessed a uncanny viticultural talent—waving through the rows each harvest and eating grapes only when they reached peak ripeness. Impressed by the dog's grape-tasting palate, Hugh dedicated this line in his honor. Although Jim Jim passed away in 2010, his lively, eager-to-please spirit continues to define this fruit-forward, approachable Cabernet.

Wine Description

This red wine presents a deep, vibrant crimson-garnet appearance in the glass with bright purple highlights near the rim. It possesses a full-bodied, generous structure defined by a smooth, mouth-filling, and supple texture. The sensory profile is highly expressive and fruit-driven, opening with an inviting bouquet of dark blackcurrants, ripe cassis, and wild blackberries, seamlessly layered with subtle notes of herbal mint, bell pepper, smoked oak, and toasted vanilla. On the palate, it delivers a rich, crunchy core of dark and blue berry fruit, held together by fine-grained, lip-smacking tannins and a crisp line of natural acidity. The finish is clean, warm, and persistent, leaving lingering echoes of dark plum, subtle spices, and savory tobacco leaf.
