Product description
This structured and 'muscular' red wine originates from Australia, within the world-renowned Barossa Valley region of South Australia. Produced by legendary winemaker John Duval former Chief Winemaker at Penfolds who spent 16 years guiding the iconic Grange the Concilio label represents a modern, elegant evolution of classic Barossa Shiraz. Sourced from choice old-vine plots across the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley sub-regions, the vines are rooted in ancient, nutrient-poor soils composed of ironstone, clay, and sandy loam over limestone subsoils. The microclimate combines warm Mediterranean sunshine on the valley floor with cool evening winds sweeping down from the higher-elevation Eden Valley hills. This daily temperature shift slows grape maturation, allowing Shiraz to develop intense dark-berry pigments, fine structural tannins, and a remarkably vibrant, mouthwatering natural acidity.
Wine Description
John Duval Concilio Shiraz presents a deep, opaque ruby-purple color in the glass with vivid violet highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering a masterfully balanced and precise portrayal of modern Barossa winemaking. The bouquet opens with an inviting display of fresh wild blackberries, black cherries, and ripe blue plums, seamlessly layered with delicate undertones of crushed violets, dried herbs, black pepper, cocoa nibs, sweet tobacco, and a subtle trace of toasted French oak spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a succulent core of dark stone fruits, licorice, and dark chocolate. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is energetic, smooth, and supple, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that glide into a clean, dry, and savory finish accented by lingering notes of dark berry skin, graphite, and subtle spice.
