Product description
This elegant dry red wine originates from France, produced in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. Founded in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious and historic négociant-eleveurs, managed today by the fourth generation—Philippe, Véronique, Laurent, and Frédéric Drouhin. The estate has been committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture across its vineyards since the 1990s. While often confused with regional Côte de Beaune-Villages, this specific bottling carries the distinct Côte de Beaune appellation (a tiny village-level AVA located on the upper slopes above the town of Beaune). Sourced primarily from young vines of Drouhin’s renowned Beaune Premier Cru sites (such as Clos des Mouches and Grèves) combined with estate plots, this cuvée offers exceptional Premier Cru pedigree and terroir complexity at an accessible village level.
Wine Description
In the glass, the wine presents a brilliant, bright ruby red color with violet reflections near the rim. The expressive nose opens with an inviting bouquet of fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, and red currant, interwoven with subtle floral notes of peony and violet, sweet spice, and a hint of forest floor. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, silky, and balanced. A core of juicy red fruit is supported by fine-grained, supple tannins and a refreshing beam of natural acidity that carries through to a polished, chalky mineral finish. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, the hand-harvested organic grapes undergo strict sorting and partial whole-cluster fermentation in open-top wooden vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels (a judicious selection of 15% to 20% new oak) to preserve delicate fruit purity while imparting structural refinement. The alcohol by volume sits at 13.0%.
Food Pairing
The supple tannins, vibrant red fruit purity, and bright acidity of this classic Beaune Pinot Noir make it an extraordinarily versatile partner at the dining table. It pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, such as roast chicken with herbs, pan-seared duck breast with cherry glaze, and roasted turkey. It also complements lighter red meat dishes like veal chops, pork tenderloin, braised rabbit, and mushroom risotto. For cheese pairings, opt for soft to semi-soft French cheeses like Brie de Meaux, Camembert, Delice de Bourgogne, or mild Comté.
