Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky is an exceptional world whisky produced in Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan. The distillery was built by Taiwan's King Car Group and released its first whisky in 2008, with its house style shaped in the early years by the late Dr. Jim Swan. The Peatist series was introduced to explore peated styles and unique character alongside the distillery's usual floral and fruity house character, adapted to the warm, humid subtropical climate that accelerates maturation.

Spirit Description

This single malt is distilled from premium European peated malt, adjusting the distillation cut points to preserve the smoke without losing the core fruit profile, and is matured entirely in select Oloroso sherry casks from Spain's Sherry Triangle. It is drawn from a single cask and bottled at natural cask strength without chill filtration or artificial colouring.

• Colour: Mahogany dusk.

• Aroma: Smoky peat weaves through tropical fruit, as pineapple and mango meld with buttery toffee, charcoal roasted plums, dark dried fruits, a hint of fresh herbs, ripe raisins, and figs. Alternatively, the nose has been noted for oily leather, an earthy tea blend, anise, grilled mango, light ash, and white pepper.

• Palate: Citrus and buttery toffee open on the palate, layered with dried pineapple and mango, alongside savoury sweet black dates and candied plums that enrich the peat. Hints of wood, cinnamon, cloves, chocolate-covered raisins, chewy figs, and a delicate smoky barbecue tang add depth.

• Body: Profoundly complex and harmonious, presenting a delicate tannic texture where the smoke supports rather than dominates the sherry driven core.

• Finish: The finish is long and lingering, offering notes of chocolate, coffee, nuts, dark leather, juicy cassis, and lightly roasted cocoa nibs.

• ABV: Typically ranges between 50% and 59.9% depending on the specific single cask bottling.
