Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique is a world-renowned single malt whisky from the Yilan County of Taiwan. Produced by the King Car Distillery, which opened in 2005, this expression is famous for pioneering the STR (Shave, Toast, Re-char) cask treatment process. This technique, developed by the late Dr. Jim Swan, treats American oak wine barrels that previously held both red and white wines to remove harsh tannins and unlock deep layers of fruit and vanilla. The intense tropical heat of Taiwan accelerates the maturation process, resulting in a whisky of extraordinary depth and maturity despite its relatively young age.

Spirit Description

This whisky presents a deep autumn gold with a reddish mahogany hue. The nose is a powerful fusion of caramelized sugars, dark chocolate, and "sticky" berry fruits, underpinned by Kavalan’s signature tropical notes of ripe mango, melon, and kiwi. On the palate, it is viscous and intense, delivering waves of vanilla fudge, espresso, and stewed plums, balanced by a sharp, peppery spice and toasted oak. The finish is remarkably long and complex, fading into notes of salted dark chocolate, walnut, and a delicate vinous dryness. As a "Solist" (Single Cask) release, it is bottled at a natural cask strength, typically ranging between 54% and 59.4% ABV.
