Product description

König Ludwig Weissbier (Hell) is a crown jewel of Bavarian brewing tradition, holding a direct lineage to royalty. Produced by König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg, the brewery is owned and operated by Prince Luitpold of Bavaria a direct descendant of King Ludwig I and King Ludwig II (who built Neuschwanstein Castle). His family’s ancestors notably held the exclusive royal monopoly on brewing wheat beer in Bavaria for centuries and penned the famous Reinheitsgebot (Beer Purity Law) in 1516. König Ludwig is an authentic, world-class Bavarian Hefeweizen that represents the golden standard of traditional German wheat beers: naturally cloudy, deeply aromatic, and supremely balanced.

Beer Description

König Ludwig Weissbier pours a luminous, cloudy honey-amber color topped with a massive, rocky, and long-lasting snow-white head that leaves delicate, creamy lacing behind.

Aroma: The nose is classic, complex, and textbook Bavarian yeast excellence. It leads with dominant, warm notes of ripe banana and clove, followed by subtle undertones of bubblegum, nutmeg, and fresh-baked wheat bread. There are no heavy hop scents; it smells entirely of ester-rich yeast and sweet, wholesome grain.

Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-bodied with a creamy, effervescent, and velvety mouthfeel driven by high natural carbonation. It leads with a gentle wave of sweet banana loaf and vanilla, which transitions seamlessly into a refreshing mid-palate marked by a spicy clove bite and mild citrus tang. The finish is remarkably smooth, crisp, and clean, leaving a faint, pleasant grain sweetness lingering on the back of the palate.

Profile: It sits at an authentic 5.5% ABV and a gentle bitterness of 15 IBU, focusing entirely on yeast-driven esters and malt harmony rather than hop bitterness.

Technical Notes: This beer adheres strictly to traditional Bavarian methods. It is brewed using a high proportion of malted wheat (at least $50\%$) alongside fine barley malt, pure spring water, and select Hallertau hops. The magic lies in its proprietary, top-fermenting unfiltered ale yeast, which produces the signature isoamyl acetate (banana) and eugenol (clove) aromatics. It undergoes a specialized bottle and keg conditioning process, remaining unfiltered to preserve its natural cloudiness, complex proteins, and smooth texture.
