Product description

Originating from Greece in the Peloponnese region, specifically within the historic Patras PDO subregion, Kourtaki Mavrodaphne of Patras PDO is a classic fortified sweet red wine produced by Greek Wine Cellars. Founded in 1895 by Vassilis Kourtakis, the family-run enterprise played a pioneering role in modernizing Greek winemaking. The estate's philosophy centers on producing authentic, accessible expressions of indigenous Greek grape varieties using a combination of long-standing tradition and modern cellar techniques.

Wine Description

The wine shows a deep ruby red colour with slight tawny amber highlights. An intense and fragrant nose offers rich aromas of dried raisins, black currants, and dried figs, interwoven with hints of prune, brown sugar, leather, and subtle spice notes. On the palate, it is full bodied, unctuous, and rounded, showcasing luscious sweetness balanced by a velvety texture and an undercurrent of tart red fruit acidity. Aged in large oak casks using a solera method, this blend of Mavrodaphne and Black Corinth grapes delivers a long, sweet finish marked by notes of caramel and dried fruit. Stylistically, it combines sweet, raisin-driven intensity with smooth, oxidative complexity and rich warmth.
