Product description

This classic California white wine originates from the United States, within the premier Russian River Valley AVA in Sonoma County. Established in 1979, La Crema has long been recognized as a trailblazer for cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in California. The Russian River Valley is uniquely influenced by marine fog pulling in daily from the Pacific Ocean through the Petaluma Gap, allowing for extended hang-time where grapes achieve full phenolic maturity while preserving precise natural acidity. Sourced from various estate and partner vineyards across the AVA's famous Goldridge sandy loam soils, this bottling serves as a benchmark for the region's hallmark rich yet balanced style.

Wine Description

In the glass, the 2024 vintage presents a brilliant medium-gold hue with pale straw reflections. The nose opens with an inviting and classic bouquet of ripe Gala apple, Meyer lemon curd, and white peach, layered alongside fragrant jasmine, toasted hazelnut, brioche, and sweet vanilla spice from oak maturation. On the palate, it is full-bodied, opulent, and creamy, yet maintained by a core of bright, refreshing acidity that keeps the lushness in harmony. Flavors of tropical fruit, lemon oil, and baking spices carry through to a long, supple, and buttery finish. Crafted as a 100% Chardonnay varietal expression, the hand-harvested grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed and barrel-fermented in French oak (roughly 30% to 35% new). The wine undergoes complete malolactic fermentation and is aged on its lees with regular stirring (bâtonnage) for 8 to 10 months to enhance mouthfeel and textural richness. The alcohol by volume sits at approximately 14.2%.

Food Pairing

The creamy texture, vibrant citrus profile, and warm oak spices of this Russian River Chardonnay make it a versatile and decadent match for rich culinary dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with butter-poached lobster, pan-seared sea scallops, Dungeness crab cakes, and grilled halibut with lemon-herb butter sauce. Structurally, its weight and acidity also complement roasted chicken or turkey with creamy pan gravy, wild mushroom risotto, pork chops with apples, and soft cheeses like Brie, Camembert, or creamy Fontina.
