Product description
This structured and 'aristocratic' red wine originates from Italy, within the world-renowned Barolo D.O.C.G. appellation of Piedmont's Langhe district. Crafted under the La Pranda label, this cuvée embodies traditional Barolo winemaking, sourcing Nebbiolo from choice hillside vineyards across the classic communes of the zone. The vines are rooted in ancient Tortonian and Serravallian soils composed of calcareous marl, clay, and sandstone (calces, arenaria). Protected by the Alps and influenced by the thermal currents of the Tanaro River valley, the vineyards experience warm summer days and crisp, fog-covered autumn nights (nebbia). This dramatic diurnal shift enables the Nebbiolo grapes to undergo an extended ripening cycle, accumulating intense phenolic complexity while building a formidable, age-worthy tannic architecture.
Wine Description
La Pranda Barolo presents a luminous, pale garnet-ruby color in the glass with brick and orange shimmers along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering a textbook expression of classic Langhe Nebbiolo. The bouquet opens with a captivating display of dried red roses, wild sour cherries, and tart cranberries, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of sweet tobacco leaf, leather, star anise, crushed limestone, and a signature line of tar, licorice, and damp forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, taut, and precisely focused, showcasing a bright core of red stone fruits, blood orange peel, and warm baking spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that cuts through the mid-palate extract. The mouthfeel is linear, muscular, and athletic, framed by firm, fine-grained, and chalky Nebbiolo tannins that carry into an extraordinarily long, dry, and savory finish accented by lingering notes of iron, dried herbs, and truffle.
