La Rioja Alta Finca San Martin Crianza 2020

This modern and approachable red wine originates from the Rioja Alavesa sub-region in Spain. Finca San Martín is the estate-grown Crianza from Torre de Oña, a boutique winery acquired by the legendary La Rioja Alta, S.A. group in 1995. While the parent company is famous for its classical, long-aged styles, the philosophy at Torre de Oña is to produce "single-estate" wines that highlight the specific terroir of their 65 hectares of vineyards in Páganos. This Crianza is designed to be fresher and more fruit-driven than the traditional Gran Reservas of the group.

Wine Description

The La Rioja Alta Finca San Martin Crianza 2021 (the current release as of 2026) presents a vivid cherry-red colour with an intense ruby hue at the rim. The sensory profile is highly aromatic, featuring a primary nose of blackberry, raspberry, and red cranberry, layered with sophisticated notes of clove, vanilla, roasted coffee, and sweet licorice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and exceptionally balanced, showcasing soft, approachable tannins and a crisp, refreshing acidity. It is characterized by its "Atlantic" freshness and mineral focus, leading to a long, fruit-forward finish with hints of cocoa and caramel. This 100% Tempranillo has an ABV of 14.5% and was aged for 16 months in oak barrels (60% new American oak and 40% second-use French oak), followed by manual racking by candlelight to preserve its delicate fruit character.
