Product description
Introduction
Bodegas LAN Gran Reserva 2017 is an esteemed red wine from the Rioja Alta subregion of Rioja, Spain. Founded in 1972, the winery takes its name from the initials of the three provinces that form the Rioja Designation of Origin: Logroño, Álava, and Navarra. The estate's winemaking philosophy focuses on a deep respect for the land and the use of artisan oak barrels, maintaining a legacy of precision and elegance that defines the classic Rioja style.
Wine Description
This wine presents a deep black cherry colour with a garnet rim. The nose is intense and elegant, offering aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as plum and blackberry, integrated with notes of sweet spice, pastry, and roasted coffee from its extensive oak aging. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and well structured, featuring layers of dark fruit, liquorice, and tertiary notes of vanilla and cedar. It is characterized by its remarkable balance, fine grained tannins, and a long, persistent finish that highlights its complexity and freshness. The blend consists of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo, with an ABV of 14%. It was aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels followed by 36 months in the bottle. The optimal drinking window is from 2024 to 2037.

Food Pairing
The structured and complex nature of this Gran Reserva makes it a perfect match for rich and savoury dishes. It pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, roasted lamb, and feathered game such as pheasant or partridge. Its spicy and earthy undertones also complement hearty stews, legume based dishes, and matured cheeses like Manchego or Idiazabal.
Vintage Quality
The 2017 vintage in Rioja was one of the most challenging on record due to a severe late April frost that significantly reduced yields across the region. However, the remaining grapes benefited from a hot, dry summer, allowing the fruit to achieve exceptional concentration and phenolic ripeness. This resulted in wines of great character and intensity, showcasing the resilience of the vines and the skill of the winemaking team.
