Product description
This structured red wine originates from France, within the regional Côtes du Rhône A.O.C. appellation in the sun-drenched Southern Rhône Valley. Produced by Domaine Le Clos du Caillou a legendary, biodynamically farmed estate situated in Courthézon, famed for its boundary-adjacent parcels right on the Châteauneuf-du-Pape borde. This bottling represents one of the greatest values and quality benchmarks in the entire region. Sourced from organically and biodynamically certified estate vineyards rooted in fine quartz-sand, limestone-clay, and round quartzite river pebbles (galets roulés), the vines benefit from a Mediterranean microclimate. Generous summer sunshine is tempered by the cooling, drying influence of the Mistral wind, allowing traditional Rhône varieties to achieve complete phenolic maturity while retaining a vibrant, mouthwatering natural acidity and detailed aromatic lift.
Wine Description
The Le Caillou Côtes du Rhône Rouge presents a luminous, deep garnet-ruby color in the glass with vivid magenta and crimson highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering an energetic, precise, and silk-textured portrait of sandy Southern Rhône terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of crushed wild raspberries, black cherries, and dark plums, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of fresh violets, lavender, garrigue herbs, cracked black pepper, and a subtle line of crushed stone minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, sleek, and supple, showcasing a succulent core of tart red fruits, licorice, and blood orange zest. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly lifts its mid-palate fruit concentration. The mouthfeel is weightless, velvety, and linear, framed by fine-grained, ultra-soft tannins that glide into an extraordinarily long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by persistent notes of garrigue, dark berry hull, and subtle spice.
