This structured and 'muscular' red wine originates from Italy, within the prized Toscana IGT appellation along the sun-drenched coast of upper Tuscany. First introduced in 1991, Le Volte dell'Ornellaia serves as the approachable, fruit-driven entry point into the world of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia. Crafted by the same team that produces the estate's legendary Super Tuscans; Ornellaia and Le Serre Nuove, Le Volte is designed for early drinking and everyday enjoyment without sacrificing structural precision. Sourced from selected vineyards across Bolgheri and surrounding Tuscan plots, the vines are rooted in a complex soil mosaic of marine sediments, alluvial clays, and gravelly volcanic deposits. The warm maritime climate, tempered by cooling breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, allows the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness, vibrant fruit concentration, and supple tannins.
Wine Description
Le Volte dell'Ornellaia presents a vibrant, deep ruby-purple appearance in the glass with bright violet highlights at the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and expressive, offering an inviting symphony of bright Mediterranean red and dark fruits. The bouquet opens with a generous display of ripe black cherries, wild raspberries, and juicy blackberries, seamlessly layered with complex undertones of fresh red plums, dried lavender, sweet tobacco leaf, dried herbs, and a subtle touch of black pepper and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, succulent, and beautifully balanced, delivering a plush core of crunchy stone fruits and dark berries. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and a lively, mouthwatering vein of natural acidity that keeps the mid-palate light and refreshing.
