Product description
This structured and 'crystalline' red wine originates from France, within the prestigious Mercurey A.O.C. appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise sub-region in southern Burgundy. Maison Louis Latour, one of Burgundy's most iconic and historic négociant-éleveurs founded in 1797, has long championed the exceptional terroir of the Côte Chalonnaise. Mercurey, the largest producing appellation in the region, is famous for yielding robust, red-fruit-driven Pinot Noir with excellent structural frame and aging potential. Sourced from choice vineyard plots situated on limestone-rich slopes at elevations between 230 and 300 meters above sea level, the vines are rooted in deep Oxfordian clay-limestone and iron-rich gravel soils. The continental microclimate features warm, sunny days balanced by cool evening breezes, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve complete phenolic maturity while retaining a sharp, mouthwatering natural acidity.
Wine Description
Louis Latour Mercurey presents a luminous, ruby-garnet color in the glass with vivid crimson highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering an elegant, expressive, and fruit-driven portrait of Côte Chalonnaise terroir. The bouquet opens with an inviting display of fresh red cherries, wild forest strawberries, and ripe red plums, seamlessly layered with delicate underlays of dried rose petals, subtle earthy brushwood, white pepper, and a subtle line of crushed limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a vibrant core of crunchy red stone fruits, blood orange peel, and subtle earthy spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that cuts cleanly through the mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is supple, broad, and weightless, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that glide into a clean, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by lingering notes of cherry skin, forest floor, and subtle oak.
