Originating from Italy in the Tuscany region, specifically within the Toscana IGT in Montalcino, Tenuta Luce Luce 2020 Magnum 1500 ml represents a pioneering, prestigious, and internationally celebrated Super Tuscan blend presented in an age-worthy large format. Conceived in the early 1990s as a historic collaborative venture between Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, Tenuta Luce was established to combine the structural elegance of Montalcino Sangiovese with the plush, rounded generosity of French Merlot. Located southwest of Montalcino, the estate spans elevated, sun-drenched slopes ranging between 350 and 420 metres above sea level. The terroir features a diverse geological mosaic: higher parcels are rich in schistose galestro and well-drained sandstone where Sangiovese thrives, while lower, clay-rich sections provide the ideal moisture and nutrient retention for Merlot. Under the direction of the Frescobaldi family and winemaker Alessandro Marini, the fruit is harvested manually parcel by parcel, optically sorted, and fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats with indigenous yeasts. Maturation takes place over 24 months in French oak barriques (approximately 80% to 85% new oak). Bottled in a 1.5-litre magnum format, this cuvée offers exceptional cellar potential, allowing its deep core of dark fruit and supple structural tannins to mature gracefully over decades.

Wine Description

The wine presents a luminous, deep ruby red colour with intense violet and garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of ripe black cherry, wild blackberry, dark plum compote, and cassis, interwoven with sophisticated notes of dried Mediterranean scrub, crushed violet petals, dark cocoa, tobacco leaf, graphite minerality, and warm French oak cedar spice. On the palate, it is full bodied, silken, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of black stone fruits, dark berries, and savoury mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural cool-climate acidity. Framed by muscular, fine-grained structural tannins and a dense, seamlessly layered mid-palate structure, it concludes with an extraordinarily long, persistent finish marked by lingering dark fruit, roasted espresso bean, and a clean, stony mineral grip. Composed of an almost equal blend of Merlot and Sangiovese, this 2020 magnum release offers an optimal drinking window spanning 2026–2045+. Stylistically, it combines Tuscan sun-ripened warmth, opulent modern texture, and aristocratic Montalcino structure.
