Product description

Lungarotti 'San Giorgio' 1990 is a historic red wine from the Torgiano region of Umbria, Italy. This specific bottling gained legendary status for its extraordinary ten-year maturation period at the estate before being released in 2000 to commemorate the new millennium. Originally created in 1977 by Giorgio Lungarotti, San Giorgio was the first "Super-Umbrian" blend, designed to break traditional rules by combining Cabernet Sauvignon with indigenous varietals. The wine's label features a detail from Raphael’s Saint George and the Dragon, a tribute to the traditional propitiatory bonfires lit in the Torgiano vineyards every April 23rd.

Wine Description

This 1990 vintage, benefiting from a decade of bottle aging before release, presents a very intense ruby red color with deep garnet reflections. The nose is remarkably complex and mature, leading with aromatic layers of leather, cassis, and kirsch, followed by notes of plum jam, cocoa, and cinnamon with a distinct balsamic background. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and dense, described by critics as "fleshy" with fully resolved, velvety tannins. Stylistically, it is a bold and structured red that balances the power of Cabernet with the elegance of Sangiovese, concluding with a long, persistent finish marked by notes of dark chocolate and licorice.
