Magners Original Irish Cider is the international flagship of the Bulmers Ireland company, produced at the historic Annerville cidery in Clonmel, County Tipperary. Since its inception in 1935, the brand has remained committed to traditional methods, using a specific blend of 17 varieties of Irish cider apples. Known as "Bulmers" within the Republic of Ireland and "Magners" everywhere else, it is famously associated with the "over ice" serving ritual, which revolutionized the global cider market in the early 2000s by repositioning cider as a refreshing, year-round alternative to beer.
Description
The cider presents a bright, polished amber-gold color with a lively, consistent effervescence.
Nose: Highly recognizable and "appley," leading with the scent of sun-ripened orchard fruit, a touch of honey, and a subtle earthy musk from the traditional fermentation process.
Palate: It strikes a deliberate balance between sweetness and crisp acidity. The flavor is dominated by juicy, red-apple sweetness that is quickly tempered by the drying tannins of the bittersweet cider apples.
Finish: Clean, refreshing, and moderately dry. It lacks the syrupy aftertaste found in many modern "alcopop" ciders, finishing with a faint, pleasant astringency.
