The Marchesi di Barolo 'Barolo Sarmassa' hails from the prestigious Barolo DOCG in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. Established in 1814 by Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier and Carlo Tancredi Falletti, the estate is widely considered the birthplace of modern Barolo. Since 1929, the Abbona family has stewarded this legacy, maintaining a winemaking philosophy that marries historic traditions with modern precision. The Sarmassa vineyard is a significant site characterized by its southeast exposure and complex Tortonian and Serravallian soils, which provide a unique blend of clay, silt, and stones that naturally limits vine vigour and ensures optimal grape ripening.
Wine Description
This Barolo presents an intense ruby red hue with brilliant garnet highlights. The sensory profile is deep and captivating, opening with a bouquet of candied red fruits, dog rose, and violet, layered with sophisticated notes of licorice, vanilla, and sweet tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and elegantly structured, showcasing a beautiful concentration of ripe berries and earthy minerality.
