Product description

This structured and 'crystalline' red wine originates from Spain, within the prestigious Rioja appellation (specifically the highly regarded Rioja Alta sub-zone). Marqués de Tomares is a historic, family-run estate founded in 1910 by Don Román Montaña in Fuenmayor, now managed by the family's third and fourth generations. Operating under a balance of time-honored Riojan tradition and hyper-precise modern viticulture, the estate focuses on low-yielding old vines that showcase the finesse of their terroir. Sourced from choice estate vineyards in Fuenmayor and surrounding areas, the vines are rooted in clay-limestone and iron-rich gravel soils. Positioned where cool Atlantic maritime currents meet warm Mediterranean breezes, this site allows Tempranillo and its traditional blending partners to achieve complete phenolic maturity while locking in a vibrant, mouthwatering natural acidity.

Wine Description

Marqués de Tomares 'J3' Rioja presents a brilliant, deep ruby-violet appearance in the glass with vivid magenta highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and expressive, delivering an inviting, fruit-forward, and highly energetic portrayal of modern Rioja Alta. The bouquet opens with a generous display of crushed red cherries, wild blackberries, and ripe red plums, seamlessly layered with delicate undertones of violet petals, sweet tobacco leaf, cocoa powder, vanilla bean, and a subtle trace of toasted cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a succulent core of red stone fruits, licorice, and red berry compote. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its mid-palate density. The mouthfeel is energetic, smooth, and supple, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that glide into a clean, dry, and savory finish accented by lingering notes of cherry skin and subtle oak spice.
