Product description
Originating from Italy in the Piedmont region, specifically within the Langhe DOC appellation, Massolino Langhe Chardonnay represents a fresh, mineral driven, and sophisticated expression of white winemaking from a house renowned for its benchmark Barolos. Established in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino in Serralunga d'Alba, the family estate applies its uncompromising attention to detail to international white varietals. Sourced from high-altitude vineyard plots in Serralunga d'Alba, Monforte d'Alba, and Alba planted on chalky limestone and clay-marl soils, the vines benefit from cool diurnal breezes that preserve vibrant acidity and intense aromatics. The winemaking philosophy under winemakers Franco and Roberto Massolino involves protective pressing under inert gas, followed by maturation in a combination of stainless steel vats, large oak casks, French barriques, and concrete vessels for approximately 6 to 9 months with gentle lees stirring. The result is a refined Chardonnay that strikes a harmony between creamy texture, bright citrus fruit, and distinct Piedmontese limestone minerality.
Wine Description
The wine presents a clear, luminous pale straw yellow colour with bright greenish-gold reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with fresh aromas of golden apple, crisp nectarine, lime zest, and white peach, interwoven with subtle notes of citrus blossom, hazelnut, vanilla bean, coffee cream, and crushed limestone. On the palate, it is medium bodied, silky, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of green apple, grapefruit curd, and saline mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by a textured, satiny mid-palate derived from fine lees contact and subtle oak integration, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering citrus peel, toasted almond, and a clean chalky mineral grip. Composed of 100% Chardonnay, it offers a refined profile with impressive aging capability over several years. Stylistically, it effortlessly combines Burgundy-like precision and aromatic tension with the rich structure, warmth, and mineral depth of the Langhe terroir.
