Product description

Produced in Argentina within the high-altitude Paraje Altamira appellation in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, Mendel Sémillon represents a rare, textured, and cellaring grade expression of old-vine white wine. Managed under the technical direction of legendary Argentine winemaker Roberto de la Mota alongside the Sielecki family, Mendel Wines is dedicated to preserving Argentina's historic viticultural treasures through artisanal precision. Sourced from a ungrafted, historic vineyard planted in 1942 at over 1,100 metres above sea level on stony, chalky limestone and alluvial soils, the winemaking philosophy combines hand harvesting, careful whole-cluster pressing, cold fermentation, and partial barrel aging in French oak (approximately 15% new) for six months with periodic lees stirring. The result is a luminous Sémillon that showcases the profound depth, vibrant acidity, and remarkable cellaring capacity of Mendoza's ancient white vine heritage.

Wine Description

The wine presents a brilliant, clear bright straw yellow colour with pale greenish-gold reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly complex bouquet opens with subtle aromas of green apple, white peach, conference pear, and lemon zest, interwoven with delicate notes of white flowers, honeyed beeswax, crushed stone, fresh almond, and subtle toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied, satiny, and precise, delivering concentrated flavours of citrus curd, orchard fruit, and mineral chalk, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by a silky, coat-the-mouth texture derived from old-vine concentration and fine lees aging, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering citrus, savory herb, and a crisp limestone grip. Composed of 100% Sémillon, it combines the sun-ripened purity and high-altitude freshness of the Uco Valley with Sémillon's classic structural weight, complexity, and ageability.
