Product description
This vintage French grape brandy originates from Gascony in southwestern France, produced by Domaine de Millet (Château de Millet) in Eauze, the heart of the Bas-Armagnac sub-region. Estate-crafted by the Dèche family, this single-year release marks the milestone 2000 vintage. Distilled primarily from Baco 22A and Ugni Blanc grapes cultivated in the estate's iron-rich tawny sandy soils (sables fauves), the wine underwent a single continuous distillation in a traditional copper Armagnac alambic. The spirit matured in local Gascon black oak barrels before being bottled directly from the cask at 84 proof (42.0% ABV) in the classic 700 ml format, delivering a vibrant balance of mid-life wood maturation and expressive fruit.
Spirit Description
This 2000 vintage presents a bright copper-amber color with warm golden highlights and medium, clean legs in the glass. On the nose, it is lifted, fruit-forward, and fragrant, opening with notes of fresh orange marmalade, dried apricots, baked yellow plums, and floral honey, followed by soft accents of vanilla bean, light nutmeg, and freshly planed oak. On the palate, it feels medium-bodied, supple, and smooth, offering an inviting wave of caramelized orchard fruits, citrus peel, and crème brûlée before developing a gentle mid-palate of soft baking spices and integrated oak tannins. The 42% ABV strength provides a clean, well-defined structure that carries the vibrant 2000 distillate without heavy wood astringency. The finish is clean, warm, and medium-to-long, trailing off with impressions of dried stone fruit, toasted almonds, vanilla, and a gentle Gascon spice.
Accolades
Domaine de Millet vintage releases from the turn of the millennium hold strong critical praise among brandy enthusiasts, sommeliers, and spirits judges. Earning consistent recognition at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris, reviewers highlight the 2000 vintage for its accessibility and fruit purity. Critics note that while earlier decades (1970s and 1980s) lean heavily into dark tobacco and heavy rancio, the 2000 vintage offers a ideal showcase for drinkers who prefer vibrant, orchard-fruit sweetness balanced by quarter-century oak contact.
