Product description
This ultra-rare, long-aged French grape brandy originates from Gascony in southwestern France, produced by Domaine de Millet (Château de Millet) in Eauze, the heart of the Bas-Armagnac region. Crafted by the Dèche family, this prestigious expression (30 Ans d'Âge) represents the crown jewel of the estate's age-statement releases. Distilled primarily from Baco 22A and Ugni Blanc grapes cultivated in the estate's iron-rich tawny sandy soils (sables fauves), the spirit undergoes a single continuous distillation in a copper Armagnac alambic. Maturing for a full three decades in local Gascon black oak barrels (chêne noir), the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend is aged for a minimum of 30 years. Bottled at 84 proof (42.0% ABV) in a hand-waxed bottle, it showcases the pinnacle of Bas-Armagnac maturation and rancio evolution.
Spirit Description
This 30-year-old Armagnac presents a strikingly deep, dark mahogany hue with reddish amber highlights and thick, slow-moving legs in the glass. On the nose, it is profound, layered, and intensely aromatic, opening with rich wafts of dried black figs, dark prunes, dates, and candied orange peel, quickly developing into complex, oxidized rancio notes of old cigar box, antique mahogany, pipe tobacco, leather, espresso bean, and roasted walnuts. On the palate, it feels exceptionally rich, oily, and mouth-coating, delivering a concentrated wave of dark molasses, caramelized plum, and dark cocoa powder before evolving into warm oak tannins, clove, star anise, and nutmeg. The 42% ABV strength provides a firm, velvety spine that carries three decades of wood influence without tasting overly astringent or tannic. The finish is remarkably long, warm, and lingering, leaving trailing impressions of dark chocolate, sweet tobacco leaf, toasted pecans, and a soft, lingering Gascon spice.
Accolades
Domaine de Millet 30 Ans d'Âge is widely recognized by spirits connoisseurs, master sommeliers, and brandy purists as a collector-grade benchmark for extended cask maturation. Earning 95+ point ratings and top honors at international spirits competitions—including the Concours Général Agricole de Paris—critics consistently praise the Dèche family's cask selection. Reviewers highlight how 30 years of barrel contact transforms the raw, rustic spirit into a seamless balance of deep wood complexity and vibrant dried-fruit sweetness, avoiding the over-extracted bitterness that often affects spirits of this age.
