Montagave Reposado "Canadian Edition" Tequila is a highly exclusive, small-batch aged spirit produced in Amatitán, within the Lowlands (Valles) region of Jalisco, Mexico. Crafted at the revered Tequila Cascahuín distillery (NOM 1123) by Master Distiller Salvador "Chava" Rosales Trejo in collaboration with the Montagave brand founders, this expression is a specialized variation of their award-winning barrel-aged line. Tailored specifically for the Canadian market and craft spirits collectors, it combines traditional Lowland agave distillation with bespoke wine-and-spirit cask finishing.
Spirit Description
Montagave Reposado "Canadian Edition" is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agaves harvested at peak maturity in the mineral-rich soils of the Lowlands. The agaves are slow-cooked in traditional masonry brick ovens and crushed using a combination of a traditional stone tahona wheel and a roller mill. Following open-air vat fermentation and double distillation in copper pot stills, the spirit undergoes a multi-month maturation process in hand-selected French oak casks previously holding fine red wine, often finished or accented with select rye or spirit cask influence for the Canadian release. Unadulterated and additive-free, it bridges Lowland agave earthiness with soft oak tannins and warm spice.
Colour: Warm honeyed amber with soft rose-gold and copper highlights.
Aroma: Rich and aromatic, opening with sweet cooked agave, ripe red berries, and dried plums, complemented by toasted oak, soft vanilla, nutmeg, and a gentle Lowland mineral backdrop.
Palate: Velvety, rich, and well-structured on the entry. Upfront flavors of roasted agave and butterscotch blend into dark cherry, subtle rye baking spice, toasted oak, and vanilla bean.
Body: Medium-to-full-bodied with a supple, coating, and elegant mouthfeel.
Finish: Long, warm, and refined, trailing off with lingering sweet agave, soft wood tannins, baking spices, and a clean, dry mineral snap.
ABV: Bottled at 41% ABV (82 Proof).
