Product description
Founded in 1906, Azienda Vitivinicola Nervi is the oldest documented estate in Gattinara, an historic sub-appellation of Northern Piedmont (Alto Piemonte) situated along the foothills of the Alps. A monumental shift occurred in 2018 when Roberto Conterno—the legendary proprietor of Barolo’s iconic Giacomo Conterno estate—purchased the historic winery, elevating the region's profile on the international stage.
Vigna Molsino is considered one of Alto Piemonte’s crown jewels. It is a stunning, south-facing natural amphitheater sitting at 240 to 420 meters above sea level. The vineyard's volcanic, iron-rich porphyry soils and dramatic diurnal temperature shifts yield Nebbiolo (locally known as Spanna) of exceptional power, mineral depth, and longevity.
Wine Description
The Nervi Conterno Gattinara Vigna Molsino 2020 pours a brilliant garnet-ruby with soft brick highlights. Darker and more somber than its sibling Vigna Valferana, the 2020 Molsino exhibits a rich, brooding nose of dark black cherry, plum, crushed dried roses, star anise, and lavender, layered over crushed volcanic rocks, leather, and fresh tobacco leaf.
On the palate, this 100% Nebbiolo delivers remarkable presence, verticality, and drive. Dark forest fruit, licorice, and iron-like mineral notes are framed by dense, fine-grained tannins and radiant Alpine acidity. Vinified with temperature-controlled fermentation in large oak vats, the wine is aged for roughly 3–4 years in large Slavonian oak botti. This non-interventional aging preserves transparency and structure, allowing the 2020 vintage to showcase both generous immediacy and a cellar-worthy lifespan extending from 2028 through 2050.
