Product description

This lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky originates from Scotland, produced in the Campbeltown region. Crafted at the historic Springbank Distillery—renowned for its 2.5-times distillation process and complete in-house production—this limited allocation represents the third release in Springbank's 5-part Sherry Wood Series (following the 2022 Pedro Ximénez and 2023 Palo Cortado expressions). Distilled in July 2014 and bottled in late 2024 (yielding just 9,900 bottles worldwide), the whisky underwent a split maturation strategy: 5 years in refill ex-bourbon casks followed by 5 years of full maturation in fresh ex-Amontillado sherry casks sourced from Bodegas Miguel Martín.

Spirit Description

This single malt presents a deep burnished amber-gold hue in the glass. The nose is earthy, complex, and distinctively Campbeltown, opening with aromas of roasted hazelnuts, pipe tobacco, and maraschino cherries, underlaid by dunnage warehouse earthiness, blood orange, and a touch of farmy wax. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and remarkably dry in style, delivering flavours of ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel, and salted caramel, counterbalanced by dark chocolate, walnut oil, and gentle peaty ash. The finish is long, dry, and mineral-driven, leaving a trailing impression of coastal brine, cinnamon spice, dried dark fruit, and lingering dunnage smoke. Bottled at a natural strength of 55.0% ABV without chill-filtration or added coloring, the Amontillado wood acts as an amplifier to Springbank’s raw, oily distillate rather than masking it in heavy sweetness.

Accolades

As part of Springbank's highly sought-after Sherry Wood Series, the 10 Year Old Amontillado Cask Matured gained instant cult status among Campbeltown enthusiasts. Securing 88–90+ point ratings across platforms like Whiskybase, WhiskyNotes, and Whisky Saga, reviewers applauded the expression for choosing a nuttier, oxidation-forward Amontillado sherry wood over sweeter Oloroso or PX, yielding a sophisticated, savory, and beautifully dry malt.
