Product description

This lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky originates from Scotland, produced in the Campbeltown region. Crafted at the iconic Springbank Distillery as part of their celebrated "grain-to-glass" initiative, the annual Local Barley series sources 100% of its grain from farms surrounding the distillery. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.2% ABV, this 10-year-old release was produced using ancient Bere barley harvested from Clochkiel Farm. Maturation was carried out in a split cask combination of 60% ex-bourbon barrels and 40% ex-sherry casks, yielding an allocation of 8,000 bottles worldwide.

Spirit Description

This single malt presents a deep golden amber hue in the glass. The nose is rich, fruit-forward, and intriguing, opening with aromas of fig rolls, date syrup, plums, and star anise, underlaid by classic Campbeltown industrial oil, dunnage earthiness, and subtle peat smoke. On the palate, it is full-bodied, mouth-coating, and distinctly savory in style, delivering unexpected notes of shiitake mushroom, tamari soy sauce, burdock root, and licorice, counterbalanced by sweet malted grain, caramel, and coastal brine. The finish is long, warm, and lingering, leaving a trailing impression of campfire ash, treacle molasses, dried dark fruits, and a gentle mineral prickle. Bottled without chill-filtration or added coloring, it offers a dense, oily profile that beautifully marries rustic grain character with balanced wood influence.

Accolades

Springbank's Local Barley series remains among the most fiercely pursued annual releases in modern Scotch whisky, prized by collectors and purists alike for its hyper-local terroir focus. The 55.2% ABV edition earned immediate praise across review platforms such as Whiskybase and Words of Whisky, with critics celebrating the unique savory depth imparted by the historic Bere barley variety and the harmonious interplay between bourbon and sherry oak.
