This lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky originates from Scotland, produced in the Campbeltown region. Crafted at the revered Springbank Distillery—celebrated for its traditional 2.5-times distillation process and full in-house floor maltings—this release forms the second installment of Springbank's 5-part Sherry Wood Series (following the 2022 Pedro Ximénez edition). Distilled in September 2010 and bottled in October 2022 at a global yield of 10,200 bottles, the whisky spent its first 6 years aging in refill ex-bourbon casks before undergoing a 4-year secondary maturation in fresh Palo Cortado sherry butts crafted from Spanish oak.

Spirit Description

This single malt presents a warm, burnished bronze hue in the glass. On the nose, it is rich, nutty, and inviting, releasing initial aromas of toasted almonds, red apples, and marzipan, interwoven with signature Campbeltown dunnage funk, orange oil, and a whisper of peat smoke. The palate is full-bodied, oily, and mouth-coating, delivering a delightful tension between the dryness of the sherry wood and the sweetness of the malt, showing flavours of dried apricots, dark chocolate truffles, clove spice, and salted caramel. The finish is remarkably long, warm, and lingering, leaving a trailing impression of roasted coffee beans, coastal brine, sweet oak, and gentle peat soot. Bottled at a cask strength of 55.0% ABV without chill-filtration or artificial coloring, the rare Palo Cortado cask influence brings an elegant, nutty complexity that harmonizes seamlessly with Springbank’s rustic distillate.
