Product description
The Okunomatsu brewery was founded in 1716 during the Edo period by a family of former samurai who transitioned into the sake and oil merchant business. The brewery is currently led by Joji Yusa, the 19th generation of the founding family, after whom this specific brand is named.
Description
This sake presents a wonderfully balanced profile with a refreshing aroma of honeydew melon, orange blossom, and ripe pear. The palate is characterized by a soft, gently sweet creamy touch with flavours of macadamia nuts, toasted nuts, and taffy. It is medium bodied with a juicy, fruity finish that remains mild and clean. This Junmai Ginjo has an alcohol content of 16% and a rice polishing rate of 55%.
Food Pairing
The balanced acidity and umami of this sake make it a versatile choice for both Japanese and international cuisines. It pairs exceptionally well with seafood dishes such as steamed clams, garlic butter scallops, or seafood ceviche. The creamy texture of the sake also complements meatier options like grilled pork chops or king oyster mushroom yakitori. For a Western style pairing, consider serving it with roasted chicken or a mild Comté cheese to highlight its subtle nutty notes.
