Old Forester 86 Proof is produced in the United States, within the region of Kentucky and the subregion of Louisville. Founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, Old Forester holds the historic distinction of being "America’s First Bottled Bourbon," as it was the first to be sold exclusively in sealed glass bottles to ensure quality and consistency. It is the only bourbon brand to be continuously distilled and marketed by the founding family (Brown-Forman) before, during, and after Prohibition, when it was one of only ten brands authorized for medicinal production.

Spirit Description

This entry-level expression is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey crafted from a "high-rye" mash bill consisting of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. It is aged for approximately four years in new, charred American oak barrels before being bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV). The spirit presents a medium amber or bronze-gold hue. On the nose, it offers a classic bouquet of rich caramel, vanilla, and sweet banana bread, with secondary notes of cinnamon, red apple, and toasted oak. The palate is smooth and relatively soft, featuring layers of brown sugar, creamy banana, and sweet cherry, balanced by herbal rye spice, caraway seed, and a hint of mint. It possesses a light to medium body and concludes with a moderately long, dry finish marked by apple peel, light oak char, and a touch of black pepper.
