Product description
Olmeca Altos Añejo Tequila is a high-quality, artisanal aged tequila produced in Los Altos (the Highlands) of Jalisco, Mexico. Created through a collaboration between Master Distiller Jesús Hernández and the late internationally renowned UK bartenders Henry Besant and Andrés Masso, Altos was designed to bring authentic, traditional 100% agave tequila to world-class bar programs. Matured in small oak casks, the Añejo expression blends the rich, mineral-driven agave character of the Highlands with smooth, sweet wood notes gained from extended barrel maturation.
Spirit Description
Olmeca Altos Añejo is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agaves grown in the high-altitude, iron-rich red soils of Los Altos. The agaves are slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens for 36 hours. A key distinction of the production process is the extraction, which utilizes both a traditional 500-year-old volcanic stone Tahona wheel and a modern roller mill. The juice is fermented in open vats using cultivated yeast and double-distilled in small copper pot stills. The spirit is then aged for a minimum of 14 to 18 months in 200-liter ex-bourbon American white oak barrels.
Colour: Warm golden amber with bright bronze highlights.
Aroma: Rich, soft, and inviting, featuring prominent notes of cooked agave, vanilla, and sweet caramel, accompanied by toasted oak, dried fruits, nuttiness, and subtle baking spices like nutmeg and cinnamon.
Palate: Smooth, velvety, and complex on the entry. Upfront sweet notes of butterscotch, vanilla bean, and dark honey yield to rich roasted agave, toasted almonds, dark chocolate, and a touch of black pepper spice.
Body: Medium-to-full-bodied with a well-rounded, silky, and mouth-coating mouthfeel.
Finish: Long, warm, and satisfying, trailing off with persistent sweet oak, brown sugar, gentle spice, and a dry, lingering agave note.
ABV: Bottled at 40% ABV (80 Proof).
