Product description

Descendientes de J. Palacios 'Pétalos' originates from Spain, within the Castilla y León region and the Bierzo D.O. subregion. The winery was founded in 1999 by cousins Alvaro Palacios and Ricardo Pérez Palacios, who were drawn to the region's ancient vineyards and dramatic landscape. Their winemaking philosophy centers on a passionate commitment to biodynamic farming and gravity-flow production to capture the true spiritual and territorial essence of the local hillsides.

Wine Description

This red wine displays a clear, luminous ruby appearance and possesses a medium-to-full body with a polished, slightly angular structure. The sensory profile is highly fragrant and expressive, opening with an aromatic nose of fresh red fruit, ripe red cherries, black olives, and blue flowers, accented by subtle hints of undergrowth and baking spices. On the juicy palate, it delivers a lively bead of refreshing acidity mixed with flavours of wild berries, plums, and a light earthiness, supported by fine-boned, sandy tannins. The finish is long, persistent, and savory, leaving lingering mineral memories and fruit purity.

  • Varietal Composition: A traditional blend primarily composed of 85% to 93% Mencía, co-planted and supplemented with minor regional red varieties like Alicante Bouschet and white varieties including Jerez and Malvasía.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its incredible delicacy and transparency, undergoing fermentation with native yeasts in wooden and stainless steel vats before aging for roughly 8 to 10 months in mostly older French oak barrels.

  • ABV: 13.5%.

  • Organic Status: The entry-level cuvée is crafted entirely from sustainably managed plots and is certified biodynamic and organic.

Food Pairing

The vibrant acidity, savory edge, and versatile structure of Pétalos make it a fantastic match for an array of rustic and flavorful dishes.

  • Meats: Pairs excellently with roast beef, barbecued meats, grilled lamb chops, hamburgers, or a peppery steak.

  • Game: Complements rich wild game options such as roasted venison or veal.

  • Savoury: Suggested pairings include traditional legume stews, wild mushroom risotto, or pizzas topped with pepperoni and spicy sausage.

  • Cheese: Matches wonderfully with mature, hard Spanish cheeses like Manchego.
