Product description
Originating from France in the Bordeaux region, specifically within the Pauillac appellation on the Left Bank, Pauillac de Latour 2019 represents a refined, aristocratic, and highly accessible expression of the esteemed Château Latour terroir. First introduced in 1989, Pauillac de Latour serves as the third wine of First Growth legend Château Latour, crafted primarily from younger estate vines and parcels surrounding the historic Enclos vineyard. Sourced from deep gravel beds over clay subsoils overlooking the Gironde estuary, the vines benefit from ideal drainage and maritime microclimates. The winemaking philosophy under estate director Hélène Génin mirrors the rigorous standards of the Grand Vin, involving plot-by-plot manual harvesting, strict double sorting, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats, and maturation in French oak barriques (approximately 20% new) for 12 to 14 months. The result is a third wine that embodies classic Pauillac noble structure and cassis intensity with immediate charm.
Wine Description
The wine presents an opaque, deep dark garnet red colour with bright ruby reflections along the rim. An expressive, complex bouquet opens with noble aromas of ripe black currant, dark plum, wild blackberry, and black cherry, interwoven with sophisticated notes of pencil shavings, graphite, cedar box, cigar wrapper, crushed violets, and subtle toasted French oak spice. On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied, structured, and focused, delivering concentrated flavours of dark berry fruit jam, cassis curd, and savory mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by fine, chalky, fine-grained tannins and a driving mid-palate structure, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering black fruits, dried herbs, and a signature Pauillac graphite grip. Composed of 56.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37.8% Merlot, and 5.6% Petit Verdot, this 2019 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2025–2040. Stylistically, it effortlessly combines Left Bank Cabernet gravel power and precision with supple mid-palate fruit and approachable elegance.
