Product description
Originating from Canada in Ontario's historic Pelee Island region, situated within the Lake Erie North Shore appellation, Pelee Island Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon represents a unique, island-grown expression of Canadian red winemaking. As Canada's southernmost inhabited territory, Pelee Island benefits from a long, sun-drenched growing season surrounded by the moderating waters of Lake Erie. Founded in 1979, Pelee Island Winery leverages this warmer microclimate to ripen late-season red grape varieties, employing sustainable viticulture, stainless steel fermentations, and judicious oak aging to craft approachable, fruit-driven, and food-friendly red blends.
Wine Description
The wine presents a deep, clear ruby purple colour with bright garnet highlights in the glass. An expressive and dark-fruited bouquet opens with ripe aromas of black cherry, wild blackberry, and juicy red plum, layered with characteristic accents of crushed black pepper, dark cocoa, sweet vanilla, and subtle toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied, supple, and fruit-forward, delivering generous flavours of dark berries, cassis, and subtle espresso supported by a core of fresh, balanced natural acidity. Framed by smooth, rounded tannins and a clean structure, it finishes pleasantly with lingering notes of dark fruit, baking spice, and subtle pepper. Composed of a classic blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, this release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2028. Stylistically, it combines the spicy, juicy blackberry character of Shiraz with the firm, structured blackcurrant profile of Cabernet Sauvignon.
