Product description

Peroni Nastro Azzurro is Italy’s premier ambassador to the global beer world. Launched in Rome in 1963 by Birra Peroni, its name ("Blue Ribbon") honors the SS Rex, an Italian ocean liner that won the prestigious international Blue Riband trophy in 1933. Engineered to embody the effortlessly chic, Mediterranean lifestyle of the 1960s, this International Pale Lager is a sharp departure from heavy, earthy European lagers. It is defined by its crisp, effervescent profile and a unique ingredient choice that makes it one of the most recognizable and widely exported premium lagers in the world.

Beer Description

Peroni Nastro Azzurro pours a brilliant, crystal-clear, pale prosecco-gold with a lively, fast-moving stream of carbonation and a tight, clean white head.

Aroma: The nose is minimalist, clean, and notably bright. It leads with dominant notes of sweet corn and fresh grain, followed by a delicate, snappy bouquet of subtle citrus peel and earthy noble hops. There are no heavy fruity esters; it smells remarkably crisp, clean, and refreshing.

Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied with a highly effervescent, "tingly" mouthfeel. It leads with a flash of delicate cracker sweetness, which is quickly sliced away by a dry, mineral-like crispness. Flavors of light citrus and a subtle, clean bitterness dominate the mid-palate, ending with a short, dry, and exceptionally refreshing finish.

Profile: It sits at a standard 5.1% ABV and a moderate bitterness of 24 IBU, offering a touch more structure and snap than standard domestic mass-market lagers.

Technical Notes: The signature dryness and pale clarity of Peroni come from the inclusion of a proprietary adjunct: Nostrano dell’Isola maize (corn). This specific variety of non-GMO corn is grown exclusively for the brewery in the fertile plains of Lombardy, irrigated by alpine snowmelt. The corn provides fermentable sugars that lighten the beer's body and strip away residual heaviness without masking the crisp profile of the two-row spring barley. It is bittered and aromatized using premium European hops (Saaz and Hallertau Magnum) to anchor the clean finish.
