Product description

This structured and 'aristocratic' red wine originates from Italy, within the world-renowned Barolo D.O.C.G. appellation of the northern Piedmont region. Pio Cesare is an iconic, family-owned winery founded in 1881, based in the ancient city center of Alba. Under the dedicated steering of the fifth generation represented by Federica Boffa Pio and Cesare Benvenuto the estate operates under a historic winemaking philosophy that champions the classic regional art of multi-parcel blending. Rather than bottling single-cru expressions exclusively, Pio Cesare crafts its classic Barolo by combining the unique characteristics of several prestigious, family-owned vineyard sites situated across the appellation's distinct communes. This traditional formula weaves together the muscular structure of Serralunga with the perfumed elegance of La Morra, yielding a complete, harmonious, and highly age-worthy masterpiece.

Wine Description

The 2022 Pio Cesare Barolo presents an intense ruby-red color in the glass with beautiful, classic garnet reflections shimmering at the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally elegant, complex, and high-toned, perfectly capturing the vibrant primary fruit and savory earthiness of a traditional vintage. The bouquet opens with an inviting, multi-faceted display of ripe red cherries, wild strawberries, and pomegranate, seamlessly layered with complex undertones of fresh mint, crushed violet petals, sweet tobacco leaf, and an exotic trace of bergamot. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, juicy, and beautifully balanced, showcasing a concentrated core of wild forest berries, sour plum skins, and a touch of savory cocoa. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and a balanced, refreshing backbone of natural acidity. The mouthfeel is remarkably polished yet firm, driven by tight, grainy tannins that carry into a long, persistent finish highlighted by a delicious note of black licorice, savory herb-infused cedar, and a touch of smoky, mineral-driven umami.
