Product description
This structured and 'aristocratic' white wine originates from Italy, within the Menfi D.O.C. appellation in southwestern Sicily. Produced by Planeta an iconic family-owned estate founded in the 1990s that revolutionized modern Sicilian viticulture this single-estate Chardonnay stands as the undisputed benchmark for Mediterranean white wine excellence. Sourced from choice, low-yielding blocks in the estate's historic Ulmo and Maroccoli vineyards overlooking Lake Arancio, the vines are rooted in nutrient-poor clay-limestone soils rich in pebbles. The warm, sun-drenched Mediterranean climate is tempered by constant coastal sea breezes and significant altitude shifts, allowing Chardonnay grapes to achieve complete phenolic ripeness while locking in a razor-sharp, age-worthy natural acidity and complex minerality.
Wine Description
Planeta Chardonnay presents a brilliant, deep golden-yellow color in the glass with vivid chartreuse and emerald highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally bold, high-toned, and complex, delivering an expansive, precise, and luxurious portrayal of warm-climate Sicilian Chardonnay. The bouquet opens with a soaring, multi-layered display of ripe yellow peaches, candied orange peel, and tropical papaya, seamlessly integrated with complex underlays of roasted hazelnuts, pastry cream, orange blossom, white truffle, toasted brioche, and a distinct line of crushed limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, muscular, and athletic, showcasing a succulent core of ripe orchard fruits, lemon curd, and salted butter. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its rich mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is broad, velvety, and linear, framed by seamless oak integration and subtle savory weight gained from fine-lees stirring, gliding into an extraordinarily long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by lingering notes of toasted almond, citrus zest, and Mediterranean herbs.
