Product description

Poderi Aldo Conterno Barbera d'Alba 'Conca Tre Pile' 2021 originates from Italy, within the Piedmont region and the Barbera d'Alba DOC subregion. The winery is situated in Monforte d'Alba at the historic Bussia Soprana estate, which represents a pinnacle of traditional Langhe winemaking. The family's philosophy bridges absolute quality standards with deep respect for local terroir, choosing to cultivate the local hillsides where old vines with a maximum age of 45 years produce low yields of highly concentrated fruit.

Wine Description

This red wine presents a mid-dense, deep ruby appearance in the glass and possesses a heavy, full-bodied structure with an enveloping, compact texture. The sensory profile is highly elegant, layered, and intense, opening with an aromatic nose of fresh red cherries, wild blackberries, black plums, and citrus peel, accented by complex trails of cinnamon, sweet tobacco, licorice, wood smoke, and graphite. On the opulent and chiseled palate, it delivers deep flavours of dark summer fruits, black pepper, and balsam, beautifully supported by a dense core of velvety tannins and crisp, precise acidity. The finish is remarkably long, structured, and warm, leaving lingering trails of mocha, dark cocoa powder, and a balanced touch of chocolate.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Barbera.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its phenomenal balance, tension, and structural focus. The hand-picked grapes undergo an 8-to-10-day skin contact maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation before spending a few months in stainless steel vats, followed by 12 months of maturation in barriques to polish the structural elements.

  • ABV: Typically recorded between 14.5% and 15.5%.

  • Organic Status: While the domain is managed using sustainable, non-interventional viticulture to capture pure site transparency, this specific release is not certified organic.

Food Pairing

The vibrant natural acidity, dense mid-palate, and building tannic architecture of this premium Barbera d'Alba make it an exceptional match for savory, protein-rich gastronomy.

  • Meats: Pairs beautifully with classic roasted beef, slow-braised pork loin, or herb-crusted lamb chops.

  • Poultry & Game: Suggested pairings include traditional roasted duck, wild goose, or roasted game birds, which seamlessly mirror the wine's deep spice and earth profiles.

  • Savoury & Italian Staples: Complements rich tomato-based pasta dishes, wild mushroom risotto, or pizzas covered in peppery meats.

  • Cheese: Matches gracefully with structured artisanal platters of mature, hard aged cheeses.
