Introduction
Poplar Grove Syrah is a red wine from Canada, produced in the Okanagan Valley region of British Columbia. Poplar Grove Winery was founded in 1993 by the Holler family on the Naramata Bench near Penticton. The winery's philosophy is a dedicated focus on the quality of their estate grown grapes, which are sourced from vineyards across the Okanagan Valley. Poplar Grove is known for its commitment to growing and producing Bordeaux varietals, but its Syrah program is highly regarded.
Wine Description
The wine is 100% Syrah. It has a deep, saturated purple red colour. The aromatic profile is complex and intense, offering notes of black cherry, blackcurrant, dark chocolate, tobacco, and black pepper. Further aromas include plum, cassis, dried fig, and hints of toasted oak.
It is a full bodied wine. The palate is rich and velvety, with an expansive mouthfeel and flavours of dark berries, mocha, plum, and black pepper. It has firm, integrated tannins and a good acidic structure. Stylistically, it is a big, bold, and concentrated wine with excellent balance. The wine was aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak barrels. The finish is long and elegant. The ABV is 14.5%. The optimal drinking window is now through 2030.
