Product description

Introduction

Produced in Argentina, this vibrant white wine originates from the high-altitude plateau of the Uco Valley in the Mendoza region. Portillo, meaning 'path' or 'gateway', is crafted by winemaking pioneers Bodegas Salentein, who established the first and largest wine estate in the Uco Valley in 1996. The winery's philosophy is rooted in harmony with nature, utilizing a unique state-of-the-art gravity-flow system across three subterranean levels to minimize fruit handling and protect the integrity of the grapes.

Wine Description

This Sauvignon Blanc presents a brilliant straw yellow colour, often accompanied by marked greenish sparks. On the nose, it is highly aromatic and fruity, revealing intense notes of pink grapefruit, white peach, and tropical fruits like passion fruit. The palate is crisp and refreshing, delivering a harmonious blend of lychee, mango, and pineapple flavours supported by a lively acidity. It possesses a medium body and an invigorating mouthfeel, leading to a clean, persistent, and citrus-driven finish.

Crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, the grapes are grown at elevations between 3,500 and 5,600 feet, where high thermal amplitude ensures a superior balance between sugars and acidity. To preserve its fresh character, the berries undergo a short cold maceration with dry ice before a controlled fermentation. While designed for immediate enjoyment as a youthful and stimulating 'terrace wine', it maintains its freshness well within a drinking window of three to four years.
