Product description

Primus Cabernet Sauvignon originates from Chile, specifically from the Maipo Valley region. The winery was founded over 20 years ago by Agustin Huneeus, who was a pioneer in creating premium Chilean blends. The estate is now part of the Gonzalez Byass portfolio and is closely associated with Veramonte. The winery's philosophy focuses on a non-interventionist, 'natural' approach, with a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture to promote a healthy, living ecosystem in the soil.

Wine Description

This red wine typically presents a very dark ruby or deep crimson colour. The sensory profile is rich and layered, featuring inviting aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dried cherry, often intertwined with notes of vanilla, cedar, and tobacco. On the medium to full-bodied palate, it delivers flavours of dark plum, blueberry, and mocha, complemented by savory hints of black olive and loam. The mouthfeel is characterized by a smooth, silky texture with well-integrated, fine-grained tannins and a balanced acidity.

  • Varietal Composition: Primarily 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, though some vintages may include a small percentage of Petit Verdot (e.g., 15%).

  • ABV: Typically recorded at 13.5% to 14%.

  • Organic Status: All farming practices are organic, with vineyards often undergoing conversion to biodynamic methods.

  • Ageing: The wine is matured for approximately one year in French oak barrels and large foudres, with only a small portion (roughly 18%) being new oak to maintain a balance of fruit and wood.
